Why should I get a subscription?

If you are a human being who spends any amount of time in the sun, you should get a subscription. Not only is sunscreen inconvenient and overpriced (these are literally the main drivers that inspired us to start SunClub) but most of what you see on the shelves is nasty chemical sunscreen or overpriced mineral sunscreen.

Think about it, how many times have you shown up to vacation without sunscreen and simply bought whatever overpriced crap is available? I know we have. With SunClub you will automatically have your sunscreen sent right to your door without having to even think about it.

When should I expect my order?

We ship out the next business day, and it typically takes 1-3 days via USPS.

How does the subscription work?

Easy, first you select how many 3oz tubes you’d like to receive on your recurring shipment, with 2 being the minimum. Then you select how often you’d like to receive your shipment, whether it be every other week, monthly, every other month etc. We will email you when your order is ready to go out and you can pause or cancel at any time.

What if I want to cancel?

What does “full spectrum” mean? And what’s the difference between UVA and UVB (and UVC)?

Full spectrum simply means that the sunscreen blocks all varieties of damaging UV light, typically UVA and UVB.

UVA Rays:

320-400nm and affects skin condition and aging
500x more UVA rays than UVB rays in sunlight
Reaches retina and causes eye issues and also cancer
Longer wavelength than UVB andcan penetrate the middle layer of your skin (the dermis)

UVB Rays:

290-320nm and causes skin cancer, sunburn, cataracts
Short wavelength that reaches the outer layer of your skin (the epidermis)

UVC Rays

Does not reach the earth's surface because it is blocked by the ozone layer in the atmosphere.

Is sunscreen bad for you or the environment?

Mineral sunscreen, like SunClub is completely safe for you and for the environment whereas chemical sunscreens can cause all sorts of damage from disrupting your hormones to bleaching coral reefs

Will mineral sunscreen leave a white cast?

Mineral does have a bit of a white cast typically and that is because it forms a barrier on top of your skin as opposed to being absorbed into your skin like with most chemical sunscreens (but as we know those go into your bloodstream and can cause all sorts of problems). While it’s typical for most mineral sunscreens to leave a white cast, we spent over a year developing a formula that’s not only safe for you and the environment but leaves a minimal white cast.

Is higher SPF better?

Not necessarily. A lot of this is simply marketing by the big guys. SPF 15 blocks approximately 93 percent of harmful UV rays. SPF 30 blocks 97 percent. SPF 50 blocks 98 percent. So, in reality, the difference between SPF 30 and SPF 50 is about 1%. That is why we feel that SPF 30 is a good, all around sunscreen for a variety of uses. That 1% difference goes out the door if you don't reapply regularly or cover all of the exposed areas of your body. What matters most is that you A.) use sunscreen in the first place and B.) reapply regularly.

What is SPF?

SPF stands for sun protection factor; the number attached to it represents the level of sun protection provided against harmful UV rays. SPF 15 blocks approximately 93 percent of harmful UV rays, SPF 30 blocks 97 percent and SPF 50 blocks 98 percent.

What makes a sunscreen reef safe?

The term reef safe typically means that the sunscreen contains only mineral UV-blocking ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Sunscreens with chemicals such as oxybenzone are not considered reef safe and can actually damage reefs

What does non-nano mean?

Some companies make nano sunscreen to allow it to rub in more effectively but there are negative side effects of this. A Non-nano particle can't enter our pores due to their size. This also makes it indigestible to corals, protecting them from the dangers of ingesting nano-sized particles. Non-nano means the particles must be greater than 100 nanometers in size. To date, toxicity studies have shown that nano-zinc and titanium based minerals do not penetrate the outer layer of healthy skin and are largely safe to use

What does GRASE stand for and why should I care?

This is an acronym created by the FDA that stands for: Generally Regarded as Safe and Effective. This is used to categorize active ingredients for sunscreen. Zinc Oxide + Titanium Dioxide are the only active ingredients currently considered GRASE by the FDA!

Why should I use sunscreen?

You should use sunscreen because it protects you from the harmful UV rays from the sun. Even on a cloudy day or when you don't get a sunburn, the harmful rays of the sun can still cause damage to your skin. Over time, this damage can include wrinkles, dry flaky skin, and potentially skin cancer even when you do not notice a visible or painful sunburn.

Is mineral sunscreen better?

We certainly think so! And the evidence is quite overwhelming. Of all of the active ingredients in chemical and mineral sunscreen, only 2 of them are considered safe by the FDA. Both of them are mineral- zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. That means that every single active ingredient in chemical sunscreen is not considered safe by the FDA! Read that again! Chemical sunscreens have active ingredients like oxybenzone (low Testosterone, allergic reactions, endocrine disruption, bleaching of coral reefs), avobenzone (low Testosterone, allergic reactions, endocrine disruption), octocrylene (damage to sea life, increased free radicals in the skin leading to cancer), homosalate (hormone disruption, breast cancer) and octinoxate (acne, low sperm count)

What is the difference between chemical and mineral sunscreen?

Mineral sunscreen (AKA physical sunscreen) sits on top of the skin and blocks rays using ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, while chemical sunscreens are absorbed into your body and absorb rays using ingredients like oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate, octinoxate etc.
